Emerging Turners Programme
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
The Emerging Turners Programme is designed to improve the demographic of woodturning within the UK by recognising, encouraging and empowering young woodturners and wood artists aged 18-38** to reach their full creative and technical potential through innovative educational workshops and access to quality resources - all delivered with passion.
Objectives:
• Aid woodturning to prosper as a professional, exciting, relevant craft in the UK
• Foster networking
• Augment knowledge
• Develop technical skills
• Stimulate imagination
• Encourage a career path
• Progression to the RPT

The Programme consists of an annual 3-day workshop which will focus on a different aspect of the craft each year as well as the practical and business aspects of becoming a professional woodturner. Regional breakout meetings will be held at other points during the year.
Successful applicants may attend each of the annual 3-day workshops over the 3 year cycle, although they must re-apply each year. There is a nominal charge for each 3-day workshop which is payable before the start of each workshop.​​

Emerging Turners Class of '24 with Tutors
Selection criteria:
• Age 18 to 38** years
• Already turning practitioners
• Working towards running their own business,
• Working for furniture/woodworking companies
• Or wanting to pursue artistic turning
Supporters:
It is a programme supported by many in the craft, including individual turners of long-standing, donating in various ways because of wanting to help and encourage these younger turners and artists. Structurally it is supported by the Register of Professional Turners and financially with various fund-raising activities and, so importantly, by the Worshipful Company of Turners.
Outcomes:
The success of these workshops is due to the students themselves; working so well together; the tutors supporting each other and being very forthcoming and generous with their knowledge and expertise.

** Applications outside the age range may be considered for exceptional candidates if sufficient space in the programme is available.

Applications for the 2026 3-day workshop (18-20 September) must be submitted by 31st May 2026.
Applicants need to submit statements to support their skill level, ambitions within the craft and provide quality photographs that portray their work in the best light.
