In general terms, the PURPOSES of the Register may be described
as follows:
- To encourage the appreciation by the general public of good
quality turning,
- To assure prospective purchasers of turned work that high standards of design, execution
and finish will be obtained from craftsmen and craftswomen who are members of the
Register,
- To promote co-operation and companionship among professional turners,
- To hold seminars for discussion of subjects of common interest,
- To encourage the proper teaching of the craft of turning.
There are four main criteria governing ELIGIBILITY for inclusion on the Register.
The Register is open to individual craftsmen and craftswomen,
whose work, in any material, is created using some form of lathe,
- who earn a substantial part of their living from this work,
- most of whose work is intended to be judged on aesthetic as well as functional grounds,
- who have demonstrated to an Assessor that they have a personal commitment to high
standards of design, execution and finish.
However, none of the Company, the Register, nor any of their respective officers, shall
have any liability for any form of professional or personal misconduct by persons who are
on the Register, although reports of any such misconduct will be investigated, whenever
practicable.
