About Bertie and his work

My work encompases most woodwork skills, making mainly commissioned furniture. The rest is padded out with turned and carved work. I started my business, 'The Following Morning Co', in 1979.

The furniture I make encompasses very nearly everything, from dining chairs to cabinets. The craft work includes lighting, bowls both carved and turned, hand copy turning, boxes, spoons and knives.

My joy is to use timber I have felled, sawn and kilned.

I have been a member of various craft organisations including the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, and Makers in Taunton. I was part of the team that wrote the first NVQ on woodturning and have had some 25 articles published in The Woodworker, Practical Woodworking, The Woodturner, Wood Carving and Good Woodworking. I have also produced 2 videos on my own carving technique which are currently sold by G.M.C. Publications.
